About Me

My name is Louise Swords I am the owner of Clayotic, my business is based in Dundalk Co Louth. I have always enjoyed using modelling clay. I made many a mess in my parents house making my own flour, salt and water clay concoction.

Back in my secondary school days, I remember coming across a well know polymer clay and this opened up a whole new creative outlet for me.

I decided to be entrepreneurial and set up a little sideline selling brooches and badges for my fellow students.

I put my entrepreneurial aspirations to one side and I chose to follow my passion for fashion and obtained an honours degree in fashion and textile design from the university of Ulster. After many years working in retail, in 2008 I was made redundant. I used this opportunity to reassess my career I decided to do a course in Montessori teachings at the MEC Dublin. During this year I wanted to find craft activities that encompassed the Montessori teaching but were also fun for the children.

During my search I came across a type of air-drying clay I instantly fell in love with it. Unlike the former polymer clay which is quite hard to manipulated and mould and needs to be baked in the oven the was air-drying clay was soft, therapeutic, non-messy perfect for children and adults.

I introduced it to the children at the Montessori nursery where I was doing my work placement, from their positive reaction I knew I had to source my own. After extensive research, a few grey hairs, many sleepless nights I did. I finally have a career that incorporates what I enjoy most working with children and using my design skills to create clay models. I  hope you gain as much pleasure from Clayotic as I do.
